Open Water Adventure Swims
Let me be your guide as we journey together on an amazing aquatic adventure in the waters off of Kona, Hawaii. The crystal clear water is WARM year round and there is a good chance we will encounter Spinner dolphins, sea turtles, manta rays and colorful tropical fish along the way.
We will meet at Kailua Pier, the swim course for the Ironman World Championships, or at Kahalu'u beach Park located about 5 miles south. We will start with an ocean safety talk, followed by an optional 30-minute clinic featuring useful open water skills and drills. Once I know you are comfortable in the water, we will head out into the bay where we stroke side-by-side while I offer suggestions to help you improve your technique and open water skills. I will have an underwater camera available to video our adventure.
The Adventure swim is both scenic and instructional, so the actual distance we cover will vary and is based on your ability and the conditions. Typically we will cover ½ mile (~1k) or a 1.2-mile swim (2k) in this 90-minute session. However, if you have a specific goal, such as to swim the entire 2.4-mile (3.8k) Ironman swim course, we can plan for that too!
